Lancers Break Records In Sprints, Mid Distances, Long Distances At Craddock Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Add another good weekend with plenty of personal bests and team bests for Longwood outdoor track.

Ayden Stewart made the 100m finals to lead a strong sprints performance. Chris Smith broke his own 800m record, Sophie Farley won the 800m on the women's side, and the Lancers had a variety of hard-earned personal high marks.

Nineteen different Lancers had personal bests over the two-days at the Dennis Craddock Invitational.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"This was another great weekend of racing," said Longwood Head Track Coach Brooke Craig. "We had some major breakthroughs in the distance and mid distance groups. This weekend was satisfying to see some who've had some setbacks finally see their hard work pay off. I'm really proud of the team and their dedication."

"Alec ran his first sub 16," Craig added. "After a few years of setbacks, it's been great to see him racing healthy and to his potential. I'm really proud of the athlete and leader he has grown into."

"This was another strong showing for this young group," said Longwood Assistant Coach-Head of Sprints, Jumps and Hurdles Rob Gritzer. "The past few weeks we became accustomed to some huge breakthroughs, and this week is another step in the right direction. As longs as this group stays fired up over the next month, we're in for a very fun conference championship in a month!"
