FARMVILLE, Va. -- With the 2020-21 season opener just days away, Longwood men's basketball is nearing the finish line of a long preseason.
On the verge of the program's third season under his leadership, head coach
Griff Aldrich gave Lancer fans insight into Longwood's preseason prep in the latest edition of the LongwoodLancers.com Sights & Sounds video series.
This year's Lancer squad is laden with talent and depth and spearheaded by the veteran captain's trio of redshirt junior
Juan Munoz and juniors
DeShaun Wade and
Christian Wilson. That trio comprises Longwood's top three returning scorers last season's Lancer squad, which capped the breakout 2019-20 season with a program-record fourth-place finish in the Big South. Longwood also welcomes back sophomore standouts
Heru Bligen and
Leslie Nkereuwem, who both played prominent roles off the bench as true freshmen and averaged double-digit minutes. Seven newcomers have also bolstered the Lancer roster this year, including a pair of veterans in junior forward
Zac Watson, a transfer from UC Riverside, and high-scoring guard
Jermaine Drewey from powerhouse Panola College.
Longwood will open the 2020-21 season at the Mako Medical Wake Forest Classic this Thursday, Nov. 26, at noon against Delaware State on ACC Network Extra and follow with a showdown against host Wake Forest on Friday, Nov. 27, at 7 p.m. on ACC Network.
Previous editions of the Sights & Sounds video series highlighted Longwood
field hockey,
women's soccer,
cross country,
softball,
baseball,
women's lacrosse,
women's golf and
women's basketball.
