FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University field hockey team is set to host the third-annual Longwood field hockey alumni game on Saturday, April 17, at 5 p.m. at the Athletics Complex in Farmville. The game will feature the current field hockey team against former players. Following the game, there will be a gathering and the graduating seniors will be recognized. Admission to the event is free and all former players are welcome to attend.
“We're excited to welcome back member of the Longwood field hockey family,” said Longwood head coach
Iain Byers. “This event is always fun and is a great chance to recognize those that helped Longwood field hockey to where it is today and introduce the current team that is ready to take it to the next level.
Longwood is coming off a 10-11 season, including a 4-2 mark in Northern Pacific Field Hockey Conference (NorPac) competition. Senior
Julia Hernandez/Norfolk (Maury) was named the NorPac East?Division Player of the Year and East Division Offensive Player of the Year while also earning First-Team All-NorPac honors. Junior
Lauren van de Kamp/Richmond (Trinity Episcopal) and sophomore
Olga Knop/Berlin, Germany (Werner-von-Siemens-Gymnasium) earned Second-Team All-NorPac honors. Senior
Kelsey Turner/Virginia Beach (Tallwood) was named to the NorPac All-Tournament team.
Hernandez and Turner will be honored along with classmates
Sara Aridas/Virginia Beach (Princess Anne),
Jessica Mantel/Virginia Beach (Princess Anne),
Melissa Strickland/Virginia Beach (Princess Anne) and
Samantha Wesser/Williamsburg (Jamestown) for their four years of service in the Longwood program.
