Biography

Coach Byers on Mantel: “This is Jessie’s final year and I am excited to see her step up and become the player we all know she can be. This can be a great season for her.”

Junior (2008): Appeared in 18 matches with three starts ... scored two goals for four points ... took 10 shots with seven on goal ... one game-winning goal.

Sophomore (2007): Appeared in 16 matches with four starts ... scored one goal ... finished season with six shots, all of them on goal.

Before Longwood: Played field hockey at Princess Anne HS in Virginia Beach ... team MVP (2003 & 2004) ... field hockey Rookie of the Year (2002) ... First Team All-Beach, All-Tidewater and All-State (2004) ... Second Team All-Beach and All-Tidewater (2002 & 2003) ... also played one year of soccer, earning team MVP honors.

Personal: Daughter of Scott and Terry Mantel ... sister (Melissa) played soccer at George Mason ... Honor Roll student in high school ... volunteers at daycare facilities ... completed an internship at the Virginia Beach Department of Human Services during summer 2009.
