Hall Announces Flanagan as Women's Lacrosse Coach

Flanagan Named 14th Head Coach in Team History

FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Tim Hall announced Faith Flanagan as the 14th head coach of the Longwood women's lacrosse program on Monday.

A rising star in the head coaching profession, Flanagan comes to Longwood from Wheeling University where she led the Cardinals to back-to-back semifinal trips in the Mountain East Conference and was the MEC Coach of the Year in 2025.

"Faith has done an outstanding job building the women's lacrosse program at Wheeling and establishing a culture that has produced success both on and off the field," Hall said. "What impressed us most throughout the process was her holistic approach to the student-athlete experience and her commitment to developing young women as students, athletes and leaders. We are confident she will be an outstanding mentor and leader for the women in our program and the Longwood community."

Over the past two seasons, Flanagan not only helped lead Wheeling to the Mountain East playoffs, she did so while also helping the team bring back lacrosse following a five-year stretch without the sport.

In 2025, the program's first since the 2019 season, she led the team to a 7-8 record overall but a 4-4 record in MEC play. That effort was enough to earn the No. 4 seed in the playoffs, and she guided the Cardinals to a playoff win over Davis & Elkins to advance to the MEC semifinals.

In addition, conference coaches voted her as the 2025 MEC Coach of the Year, and she had four All-MEC Honorees.

"I am honored to join Longwood University as the head women's lacrosse coach," said Flanagan. "From my first conversations with the administration, it was clear that Longwood is a special place. My vision is to build a program that is known for its culture, competitiveness, and commitment to developing exceptional young women. We will focus on creating an environment where student-athletes are challenged to grow every day, compete at a high level, and take pride in representing Longwood. I am excited to work alongside our administration, alumni, and supporters as we build something special together."

This spring, she guided the Cardinals to a 10-9 overall record with a 6-4 record in MEC play and secured a postseason win for the second consecutive year. Six players earned All-MEC honors, including the Midfielder of the Year, Trinity Rose, along with Goalkeeper of the Year Giavonna Perkins.

Rose was third in the MEC in goals per game and fourth in points per game, and teammate Sophie Cirone, also a First-Team All-MEC selection was third in points per game and assists per game. Perkins, meanwhile, ranked third in save percentage while making a league-leading 173 saves.

Flanagan began her coaching journey at Notre Dame College following her final collegiate playing season there.

As a player, she was a two-time Second-Team All-Conference Carolinas selection at Erskine College, where she also was the Conference Carolinas Comeback Player of the Year. She totaled 129 goals and 37 assists during her time at Erskine before playing her final season at Notre Dame College.

At Notre Dame College, she helped lead the Falcons to the MEC Championship game as the team went 8-2 in MEC play.

She holds her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Erskine.
