FARMVILLE, Va.- The Longwood Lancers (3-8, 2-3 Big South) return home after defeating the Presbyterian Blue Hose on the road last weekend.
 
They will face the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs (1-13, 1-4 Big South) in a Big South conference matchup at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field.
 
History:
  • The two Big South programs have faced off 10 times
  • Longwood leads the series 8-2.
  • The two teams met last year, with Gardner-Webb winning 14-12.
  • Longwood won by one goal in both 2023 and 2024.
Last Time Out:
  • Longwood topped Presbyterian 10-7 for the team's first road win of the season.
  • The Lancers never trailed in the contest as Jordan Fitzgerald scored two of the team's first three goals for a quick 3-0 lead.
  • In addition to Fitzgerald, Ava Bower (two goals, one assist), Kendra DeFilippo (one goal, three assists) and Madison Rogers (two goals, one assist) all had multiple points on offense.
  • Isabella McCullough made 14 saves in goal, including five in the fourth quarter to help stave off a Presbyterian rally.
  • The Lancer defense forced 22 turnovers as well and limited PC to seven goals, matching the fewest Longwood has allowed in a game this season.
Runnin' with the Bulldogs:
  • The Runnin' Bulldogs look to Maddie Tredway to lead their offense, with 21 goals and 10 assists.
  • Tredway does it all for Gardner-Webb, with 88 draw controls as well as 12 ground balls and nine caused turnovers.
  • Tredway has received Big South Freshman of the Week three times this season. She is third in the Big South for draw controls per game. 
  • Jazmyn Morris (19 goals, three assists), Addi Cook (15 goals, four assists), and Emma Duchscherer (14 goals, seven assists) and Katie Westbrook (10 goals) have also scored at least 10 goals.
  • Jazmyn Morris (15 draw controls) and Abby Scalia (10 draw controls) also have at least 10 draw controls.
  • Abby Consaul is the top defender for the Runnin' Bulldogs with 24 caused turnovers and 19 ground balls. Holly Martindale backs her up with 14 caused turnovers and 15 ground balls. 
  • In goal, Emma Anderson has been a dominant force, with 152 saves, 69 ground balls, and a 0.451 save percentage. She is fifth in the nation for saves and third in saves per game. She is first in the Big South for saves per game and fourth in save percentage. 
Youthful Attack:
  • Sophomore Madison Rogers leads the Lancers' attacking efforts with 29 goals and three assists. Rogers is third in the Big South for goals per game.
  • Two more sophomores follow right behind Rogers' scoring efforts, Alexandra Hirst (10 goals, nine assists) and Bailey Stratton (14 goals, two assists). 
  • In addition, Sarah Forman, a sophomore, is tied for the team lead in assists with 10.
  • 63 goals this season have been scored by freshmen or sophomores. 
Fitz-Magic:
  • Jordan Fitzgerald has proven to be a talented two-way midfielder for Longwood, with 10 goals, three assists, 35 draw controls, nine caused turnovers, and 11 ground balls. 
  • She also leads the team with five free position goals.
  • Fitzgerald had her first hat trick of the season against Furman on April 4.
  • Her season high in draw controls came against Coastal Carolina, tallying six. 
  • Fitzgerald is fifth in the Big South for draw controls per game. 
Experience in the Back
  • Longwood's defense has a seasoned back line, with three seniors among the defensive unit, leading the way for a feisty defense that ranks eight in the nation in caused turnovers per game (11.91).
  • This season, the Lancers have tallied 131 caused turnovers and 200 ground balls. 
  • Seniors Lily Stohlman (16 caused turnovers, 21 ground balls) and Zenie Newsom (15 caused turnovers, 28 ground balls) have both been at the helm directing traffic, along with senior Alexandra Burst (10 caused turnovers, 16 ground balls).
  • Newsom is sixth in the Big South for ground balls per game. 
Daley Delivers:
  • Peyton Daley has had a standout freshman campaign, with 21 caused turnovers and 22 ground balls.
  • She earned Big South Freshman of the Week on April 7.
  • Daley is fourth in the Big South for caused turnovers per game.
Backstopped by Bella:
  • Isabella McCullough (3-8, 2-3) has been the key netminder for Longwood. With 112 saves, 18 ground balls, and a 0.452 save percentage.
  • McCullough is third in the Big South for save percentage and second in saves per game. In the nation, McCullough is seventh in saves per game. 
  • In the team's last outing, McCullough posted 14 saves with seven goals allowed, helping the Lancers earn a road win at Presbyterian.
  • Earlier this season, she posted 21 saves to set a school record against Liberty. 
  • McCullough sits with a career 190 saves, just 10 away from joining the 200 club. 
Big South Standings:
  • The Lancers currently stand in fifth in the Big South, sharing the spot with Radford. 
  • This weekend, Radford faces off against Mercer, Presbyterian faces Wofford, and Winthrop faces Furman. 
  • Two wins in the last three games would help ensure a return to the postseason for Longwood, as the Big South takes the top six teams in the league.
