Track Adds New Records At Colonial Relays

Lancer Men, Women, Keep Building On Strong Spring Season

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Three meets deep, and Longwood's outdoor track team continues to set and break records seemingly week in and week out.

Despite not having runners in every event at the Colonial Relays, the Lancer women tied for 16th out of the 30-team field, and the Lancer men finished 25th out of 32 teams.

The distance group broke three team records, and the relay teams were able to lower multiple team records as well.

NOTABLE RESULTS:

Chris Smith already held the men's outdoor 800m record, and he lowered it with a 1:55.34 while finishing sixth in the men's 800m run open field.

Sophie Farley, meanwhile, shattered the team's outdoor 5,000m record by one minute, breaking off a 17:10.64. She broke the record, set earlier this spring by Kirsten Morley, en route to finishing sixth in the women's 5,000m invite. Her time was the third-fastest time in the Big South this season.

While Morley's 5,000m team record was broken by her teammate, she was in the process of lowering the 10,000m record. She knocked six seconds off the program record, set a season ago, with a 39:14.71 that was the fourth-fastest time in the Big South this season.

The men's 4x200m team shined on Saturday. The foursome of Justin Goode, Cullen Carter, Tristan Duplissey and Ayden Stewart broke the team record by running a 1:29.64.

The women's 4x400m squad also lowered the program record. Mayson Jenkins, Jocelyn Zanca, Taylor Samuels and Liliana Arevalo combined for a 4:02.72, shaving four seconds off the previous record set earlier this spring.

The men's DMR group of Christian Reid, Josh Marin, Smith and Andrew Hathaway also broke the program record with a 10:41.07.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"Day one, the goal going in was to set some benchmarks for our distance squad," said Longwood Head Coach Brooke Craig. "The squad came away with three school records and several PRs. The relay teams had the goal of preparing to compete over multiple days at the conference championship. Everyone responded to the challenge. I'm really proud of the team effort that we had this weekend."

"Overall, we had a big day from our young group!" said Longwood Assistant Coach-Head of Sprints, Jumps and Hurdles Rob Gritzer. "Several student-athletes stepped up to the challenge of having multiple races in a short period of time to simulate a conference environment. Heading into our last block of training for the year, the team is confident and ready for some big results!"
