FARMVILLE, Va. – Matthew Lyons put together two strong rounds to close his collegiate debut, and the Big South noticed. The conference office announced him as the Big South Freshman Men's Golfer of the Week on Thursday afternoon.
 
Lyons played his first collegiate tournament at the Griffin Invitational, and he posted back-to-back rounds under par to card a top 20 finish.
 
Overall, he shot a 78-70-70—218 (+2). He tied for seventh in the field with 11 birdies and added an eagle as well.
 
He is the second Lancer to earn weekly honors from the Big South this season. Justin LaRue was named the Big South Men's Golfer of the Week on September 7 after finishing tied for fifth at the Red Bandana Invitational.
 
The Lancers are back in action early next week at the Virtues Intercollegiate, hosted by Miami University Ohio. They play at Virtues Club Golf Course in Nashport, Ohio on Monday and Tuesday, September 25-26.
