RICHMOND, Va.- The Longwood men's tennis team competed at the River City Open, hosted by the University of Richmond, on October 7
th through the 9
th.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Singles:
Ernest Rocabert fell to Monil Lotlikar from George Mason 7-5, 3-6, 3-6 to start the tournament. In the consolation bracket Rocabert also fell to Herrick Legaspi from Navy and Dinel Kliebhan from Richmond.
Guillermo Cagigas and
Yoav Weinberg both defeated an opponent from George Mason in the round of 128, and then both won again on Saturday against an opponent from Navy. The duo swept their singles weekend completing a perfect 6-0 run between the two.
Timeo Puech won his opener in straight sets against Momin Khan and again on Saturday against Nicholas Nguyen. Puech completed his perfect singles weekend with a victory over Harrison Gold from Bucknell on Sunday.
Lukas Krause fell in his opening round against Niza Simunyola, but rebounded with a win against Nathan Nguyen. Krause dropped his final match against an opponent from Bucknell
Gary Huang was defeated by Zavan Fahim in the opening round and won his second round against Eric Liu. Huang was defeated in his final match against an opponent from Richmond.
Ryan Foster fell in the opening round against Hayden Postin, his next round against Matthew McNair and final round.
Nikhil Kulkarni defeated Herman Jentoft in straight sets in the opening round, and followed his first victory with a second against Caleb Miller. Kulkarni fell in his final round on Sunday
Luis Reis defeated Alvaro Pedraza in the opening round and took down Christian Pumpelly in the second round. Reis claimed his perfect singles weekend when he beat Mark Taranov on Sunday.
Vselovod Rusin lost to Dustin Ha in his first round and by Andrew Ballesteros in the second round. Rusin dropped his final contest on Sunday as well.
Doubles
The duo of Cagigas and Rocabert won their opening two matches to start the weekend and dropped their final against Harper and Orso from Virginia Tech.
Reis and Weinberg won their first doubles match before dropping their next two contests.
The tandem of Kulkarni and Puech swept their doubles opponents over the weekend to finish 3-0 in doubles.
Krause and Huang won their first two rounds of doubles before they dropped their final contest on Sunday to finish 2-1 in doubles.

Adam Jackson. "We fought hard in every match and won a lot of close matches. We have a lot of heart and grit, I'm excited to see them build on their success at the Big South tournament later this month."
