Longwood Falls At #1 Virginia 7-0

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University men's tennis team fell at the University of Virginia, the top-ranked team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, 7-0 on Saturday evening on Boyd Tinsley Courts at Boars Head Country Club in Charlottesville. Sophomore Nobu Tanaka/Potomac, Md. (St. Johns College HS) and senior David Cardoso/Porto, Portugal (Externato Lumen) picked up a win at #2 doubles while the Lancers faced three nationally ranked opponents in the singles matches. Longwood falls to 3-3 while Virginia improves to 14-1. The Lancers return to action on Sunday, February 28, when they travel to Greensboro, North Carolina, to take on UNC Greensboro at 1 p.m..

In singles competition, Tanaka fell at #1 to #55 Lee Singer (2-6, 1-6), freshman Marc Ferrigno/Hvidovre, Denmark (Brondby Gymnasium) fell at #2 to #72 Phillippe Oudshoorn (4-6, 1-6), senior Billy Heird/York, Pa. (Dallastown) lost at #3 (3-6, 1-6), Cardoso fell at #4 to #120 Steven Rooda (0-6, 0-4 retired), freshman Adham Halabi/Beamsville, Canada (Niagara Academy) lost at #5 (2-6, 2-6) and junior Milo Barajas-Alexander/Arlington (Bishop O'Connell) fell at #6 (1-6, 3-6).

In doubles action, Cardoso and Tanaka won at #2 (8-4) while Heird and Ferrigno lost at #1 (6-8), and Halabi and Barajas-Alexander fell at #2 (1-8).
