CARY, N.C. — The Longwood men's tennis team shut out North Carolina Central, 7-0, on Thursday at Cary Tennis Park, winning its second match in two days.
Longwood (8-5) began the match with winning at No. 3 doubles as Daniel Lopez and Alejandro Uribe defeated Santiago Pinna and Pol Puig Montiel, 6-3. Timéo Puech and Daniel Borisov clinched doubles at No. 2 against Naresh Bharathy and Leo Fortier, 6-3.
Rufus Plane opened singles with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Kareem Abdul Hakeem at No. 3 and Petter Lindquist followed with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Fortier at No. 5.
NCCU's Pinna retired up a set against Lopez on court four, having won the first, 7-6 (5), though, Lopez took the first game of the second set before his opponent did not continue. Uribe then won at No. 6 versus Puig Montiel, 7-6 (4), 6-4, before Puech took care of Bharathy, in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1.
Borisov closed the match with a three-set win over Rodrigo Alves, 5-7, 7-5, 10-6.
The Eagles fell to 8-6 on the season with the loss.
Longwood next heads back to Clinton, S.C., on April 2 for a makeup of the March 8 postponed match against Presbyterian in Big South play.
