COMPLETE RESULTS
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Longwood University posted a final round of 324 Sunday in women's golf for a 54-hole total of 952 (319-309-324) to finish in seventh-place among 15 teams at the Hawkeye Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Ball State University won the event with its 309-303-309--921, while Drake University's Olivia Lansing earned medalist honors at 71-76-75--222 at the 6,202-yard, par 72 Finkbine Golf Course. The Lancers will play again October 13-14 at the Spider Fall Invitational hosted by the University of Richmond.
Longwood was led by senior
Mary Carmody/Cortland, N.Y. (Cortland) with her collegiate career-best 54-hole score of 77-75-73--225, good for second-place among the 87 collegiate golfers. Carmody's outstanding runner-up effort was followed by sophomores
Kameron Carter/Bassett (Bassett) (75-75-79--229, t-6th) and
Brooke Mallory/Brockville, Ontario (St. Mary Catholic) (83-77-82--242, t-46th), junior
Laura Barrett/Blackstone (Nottoway) (89-82-90--261, t-82nd), along with senior
Kara Spence/Hampton (Phoebus) (84-83-94--261, t-82nd). Carmody was second among the field in both par 4 scoring (4.20, +6) and pars (38), while tied for fifth in par 5 scoring (4.92, -1). Carter tied for fourth in par 4 scoring (4.27, +8), tied for eighth in birdies (6), tied for 12th in pars (30), and tied for 19th in par 5 scoring (5.08, +1). Mallory tied for 15th in birdies (5), while Spence tied for the lead in eagles (1).
Through four tournaments, and 11 rounds of golf, Carter leads Longwood with her scoring average of 74.6 and is followed by Carmody (75.7), Mallory (79.2), and Spence (80.6). Other averages include redshirt-freshman
Mary Hashagen (84.4), freshman
Alexa Boucher (85.7), and Barrett (87.0). The Lancers are averaging an impressive school-record pace of 309.6 for team scoring this fall.
The upcoming tournament to be hosted by UR will be played at the Independence Golf Club in Midlothian.
