Women's Golf Closes in Fifth at The Nashville Invitational

Lehr Climbs into Top Six, Wippert Stays in Top 16

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Madison Lehr stayed in the top six, and Chiara Wippert was tied for 16th to help Longwood women's golf finish strong at The Nashville Invitational on Tuesday.
 
The Lancer women held sole possession of fifth after the final round was complete at the Hermitage Golf Club.
 
NOTABLE RESULTS:
 
The Lancers improved their team score in each of the three rounds, firing a 306-299-296—901 (+37). The team's 296 was the third-lowest round of the final round among the 16 teams.
 
Lehr, meanwhile, was resilient once again. She closed out the tournament with a 75-72-73—220 (+4) that had her tied for sixth. In her final round, she had a pair of birdies, and she had a total of four over the three-round tournament.
 
Wippert was tied for 16th behind a 76-73-74—223 (+7). She closed her final round well, finishing with a birdie and four pars in her final five holes. For the tournament, she tallied six birdies, with two coming in each round.
 
Avery Nordman moved up into the top 30, tying for 29th with a three-round card of 76-78-74—228 (+12). She had 16 pars in her final round.
 
Abigail Sheldon tied for 49th with a 79-76-78—233 (+17), and she had a pair of birdies at the tournament. Caroline Tragesser climbed into a tie for 65th with four birdies in her final round. She posted an 84-79-75—238 (+22).
 
WHAT THEY SAID:
 
"We finished strong today," said Longwood Head Coach Megan Weaver. "We didn't have worse than a double bogey today, which led to our progression today. There wasn't a lot strategically to this course, but you still had to hit good shots to score; that's what we did today! We have a quick turnaround before App State this weekend, and I hope the momentum carries through!"
