SAINT HELENA ISLAND, S.C. – Madison Lehr fired the best round of her career, and Longwood women's golf is headed back to match play at the Big South Championship.
 
Lehr tied for third after three rounds of stroke play, and the Lancers climbed into third as a team on the par 72 course at the Ocean Creek Golf Club at Fripp Island Resort. Now, Longwood will face UNC Asheville in the Big South Semifinals tomorrow morning.
 
NOTABLE RESULTS:
 
The Lancers, who entered the tournament as the third seed, battled their way to their best round of the event, a 301, knocking five strokes off their second round score yesterday.
 
That helped Longwood jump Winthrop and Radford, as the Lancers finished with a 310-306-301—917 (+53). The team finished four shots behind UNC Asheville and 19 shots behind the stroke play champions in High Point.
 
Lehr led the charge. She went on a tear to help Longwood separate from a three-way tie for fourth between Charleston Southern, Winthrop and Radford by making birdie on three of her final four holes to record a three-under 69. She finished the day with five birdies total.
 
The three-under round tied for the second-lowest round of the day, and Lehr climbed into a tie for third with her three round score of 75-74-69—218 (+2). She earned a spot on the All-Championship Team, becoming the third Lancer to do so.
 
Abigail Sheldon also continued her strong run of play and matched her second round with a 73. She had four birdies on the day and climbed up three spots into a tie for seventh with a 78-73-73—224 (+8).
 
Chiara Wippert finished in sole possession of 17^th, giving Longwood three golfers in the top 20. She carded a 75-77-80—232 (+16).
 
Avery Nordman moved up one spot to 31^st with a 82-82-79—243 (+27), and Caroline Tragesser finished in 43^rd with an 86-92-93—271 (+55).

"Madison had her personal best round today, and wow, did it come when we needed it!" said Longwood Head Coach Megan Weaver. "Our motto today was 'good enough.' Avery and Chiara battled through bogeys and served 'good enough.' Abigail had a great day, which surprisingly ended with her tee shot getting stuck in a palm tree. This was when we were in a three-way tie for fourth. Fortunately, we puled ahead and secured the third seed we came in with. Now comes the exciting match play portion tomorrow!"
