SAINT HELENA ISLAND, S.C. – Longwood women's golf knocked four strokes off the team's first round score to climb into a tie for fourth in the second round of the Big South Championship.
 
Madison Lehr was consistent for a second straight day to move up into the top seven, and Abigail Sheldon joined her in the top 10 as well on the par 72 course at the Ocean Creek Golf Club at Fripp Island Resort.
 
NOTABLE RESULTS:
 
Longwood is tied with UNC Asheville for fourth, with both teams the only ones to move up in the standings on the day. Longwood posted a 310-306—616 (+40) to tie with Asheville, who posted the second-lowest round of the day.
 
The Lancers are one shot back of Winthrop in third and three shots behind Radford in second with one round to play.
 
Lehr was once again steady at the wheel for the Lancers. She shaved a stroke off her first-round tally by recording 14 pars and a birdie and nothing worse than a bogey today. Her two-round total of 75-74—149 (+5) has her in sole possession of seventh.
 
Sheldon, meanwhile, shot up 10 spots in the standings into sole possession of 10^th, and once again she did so with an excellent back nine. She played her final nine holes of the day at two-under, carding a trio of birdies in the process, to hold a 78-73—151 (+7) with the final round tomorrow.
 
Chiara Wippert is tied for 11^th. She too shot a solid round with one birdie and nothing worse than a bogey on the challenging course, and she is sitting at 77-75—152 (+8).
 
Avery Nordman finished the day in 32^nd with an 82-82—164 (+20). Caroline Tragesser is in 44^th following an 86-92—178 (+34).

"Today the pins were a lot tougher, and it led to most teams shooting higher scores in the second round," said Longwood Head Coach Megan Weaver. "We played better and were able to tighten the gap to second and third place. We're optimistic that our best golf is ahead of us!"
