FARMVILLE, Va.- The Longwood Lancers (2-7, 1-2 Big South) return home to face the Furman Paladins (6-6, 2-1 Big South) on Saturday afternoon at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field.
 
History:
  • The Lancers and Paladins have faced off four times.
  • Fuman leads the series 4-0.
Looking at the Paladins:
  • Lily Toole has been a key all season for Furman, doing a little bit of everything. She leads the team in points (45) and is second in goals (32) and assists (13) while also garnering nine ground balls, four caused turnovers and five draw controls.
  • Shae Insigna (37 goals, three assists) leads the team in goals while Reynolds Hester leads the team in assists (24) to go with 14 goals.
  • Allie Kandel (23 goals, 10 assists) and Emily Muir (14 goals, three assists) also have scored at least 10 goals this season.
  • Skylar Hilmer is dominant on the draw for Furman, with 34 draw controls. Kandel has added 21.
  • Zoe Milmoe is a lockdown defender, with 14 caused turnovers and 25 ground balls, both team-best marks.
  • Charlotte Kent (13 caused turnovers, 19 ground balls), Lily Dyer (13 caused turnovers, 22 ground balls), and Skylar Hilmer (10 caused turnovers, 20 ground balls) aid in defensive efforts. 
  • Sam Melville (6-3) has been the primary goalkeeper for Furman, with 64 saves, 12 ground balls, and a 0.464 save percentage. Melville leads the Big South in save percentage and goals against average (10.55).
  • Insigna is second in the Big South in goals per game, and Toole leads in points and shots per game. Hester leads in assists. 
  • Hilmer is seventh in draw controls per game. 
Sophomore Power:
  • The Longwood offense is sophomore-led.
  • Madison Rogers leads the charge with 23 goals and two assists.
  • Rogers has scored in all nine games for Longwood, notching five hat tricks this season. She has tallied a hat trick in three straight games.
  • Alexandra Hirst (nine goals, six assists) and Bailey Stratton (11 goals, two assists) also have scored at least nine goals this season for Longwood.
  • Sarah Forman (three goals, eight assists) leads the team in assists.
  • In the Big South, Rogers is fifth in goals per game and ninth in points per game. 
Full Field Fitzgerald:
  • Jordan Fitzgerald has been a standout two-way midfielder for the Lancers
  • The junior has five goals, two assists, 30 draw controls, seven caused turnovers, and nine ground balls.
  • Fitzgerald stands in sixth for the Big South in draw controls per game.
Midfield Success: Defending the Smurf Turf:
  • Longwood's defense has been feisty at home in the last two games.
  • The Lancers have forced 51 turnovers in those two contests.
  • Three seniors lead the defense for the Lancers: Zenie Newsom (25 ground balls, 14 caused turnovers) leads the team in ground balls, and Lily Stohlman (16 ground balls, 12 caused turnovers) and Alexandra Burst (13 ground balls, nine caused turnovers) have also played an important role.
  • Freshman Peyton Daley has also inserted herself as an important contributor, with 17 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers. She leads the team in CTs.
  • Daley was the Big South Freshman of the Week on March 31.
  • In the Big South, Daley is fourth in caused turnovers per game, with Newsom in ninth. Newsom stands fifth in ground balls per game in the Big South.
Brick Wall Bella:
  • Isabella McCullough (2-7) has been the go-to goalkeeper for Longwood.
  • She has 89 saves this season, 13 ground balls, one caused turnover, and a 0.434 save percentage. Her career total is currently 167 saves with a 0.442 save percentage. 
  • McCullough currently leads the Big South in saves with 89 and is sixth in save percentage. In the NCAA, McCullough is third in saves per game. 
  • Against Liberty, McCullough broke the school's single-game save record with 21. 
Home Work:
  • Longwood has won its past two home games, and it has given up seven goals in each contest.
  • Longwood topped Old Dominion 12-7 behind five goals from Bailey Stratton on March 17.
  • The Lancers picked up a Big South win with a 10-7 win over Winthrop on March 28. Madison Rogers led the way with a hat trick.
