FARMVILLE, Va. – The Longwood Lancers (2-6, 1-1 Big South) travel down to the High Point Panthers (1-8, 1-1 Big South) for a midweek Big South matchup.
 
History:
  • The Lancers and Panthers have faced off 17 times
  • High Point has won all 17 matches.
  • The two teams began playing in 2011, with this year being the 18th game between the two Big South members. 
Getting the Pounce on the Panthers:
  • Shannon Smith leads High Point's scoring efforts, with 18 goals and seven assists. She is the only player with at least 10 goals on the team.
  • Kate Prentice (eight goals, one assist), Bella Germani (seven goals), Lily Trout (six goals, eight assists) and Tatum Goettelmann (six goals, four assists)have all scored at least six goals as well.
  • Trout leads the team in assists with eight, and Smith's seven rank second on the squad.
  • Grace Vickery has been the standout player on the draw circle, with a team-best 17 draw controls.
  • Bella Germani (20 ground balls, 14 caused turnovers), Sydney Martin (13 ground balls, 11 caused turnovers), Caitlyn Baehr (13 ground balls, eight caused turnovers), Haley Urban (12 ground balls, eight caused turnovers) and Julia Dustin (10 ground balls, 10 caused turnovers) all are field players with at least 10 ground balls.
  • Ava Welsh (1-8, 1-1 Big South) is the starting netminder for High Point, posting 75 saves, a .436 save percentage, 33 ground balls, and 11 caused turnovers. 
  • Welsh is fifth in the Big South for save percentage, third in ground balls per game, and second in saves per game. 
Sophomore Power:
  • Sophomores have been the drivers of Longwood's offensive attack, with the top four point-producers all playing their second season in Farmville.
  • Sophomore Madison Rogers has been the key leader on offense for Longwood, with 20 goals and two assists. 
  • Sophomores Bailey Stratton (11 goals, two assists) and Alexandra Hirst (nine goals, six assists) also have scored at least nine goals this season.
  • Sarah Forman, also a sophomore, leads the team with eight assists and has added three goals as well.
  • Rogers is fourth in the Big South in goals per game. Forman sits in seventh for assists per game. 
All Around Game:
  • Jordan Fitzgerald has been a key player all over the field this season.
  • The junior leads the Lancers with 28 draw controls, good for fourth in the Big South in draw controls per game.
  • In addition, Fitzgerald has seven ground balls, seven caused turnovers, five goals and two assists.
  • She is tied for the team lead in free position goals, with three.
Midfield Prowess: Seasoned Defense, with a Dash of Youth:
  • The Longwood defensive unit is led by three seniors: Zenie Newsom (24 ground balls, 13 caused turnovers), Lily Stohlman (14 ground balls, 10 caused turnovers) and Alexandra Burst (13 ground balls, eight caused turnovers).
  • Newsom is ranked fourth in the Big South in ground balls per game and fifth in caused turnovers per game.
  • In addition, freshmen Peyton Daley (14 ground balls, 12 caused turnovers) and Sienna Huffman (11 ground balls, six caused turnovers, five draw controls) have provided a lift as well.
  • Daley was named the Big South Freshman of the Week on Tuesday, March 31 after recording 10 ground balls and five caused turnovers over two games the prior week. 
  • Daley stands eighth in caused turnovers per game in the Big South.
Breaking Records with Bella:
  • Goalkeeper Isabella McCullough (2-6, 1-1 Big South) has been the go-to goalkeeper for the Lancers. She has posted 85 saves, a .455 save percentage, 13 ground balls, and one caused turnover. 
  • McCullough leads the Big South in saves per game (10.62) and is fourth in save percentage (.455).
  • In the NCAA, McCullough is third in saves per game and 42nd in save percentage. 
  • Against Liberty, McCullough set a Longwood single-game record with 21 saves, which tied with Eastern Michigan's Madison Porter for most saves in a game this season.
Big South Results-
  • The Lancers are 1-1 in the Big South after beating Winthrop 10-7 on March 28.
  • Longwood currently sits fourth in the Big South, just behind Furman, Wofford, and Mercer. 
  • After their standoff with the Panthers, the Lancers will return home to face the Furman Paladins on April 3rd at 1 pm.
