FARMVILLE, Va.- The Longwood Lancers (0-5) return home after spring break to face the Old Dominion Monarchs (5-4, 0-1) on Wednesday night. This is the last non-conference matchup for the Lancers as they prepare for Big South play.
 
Historical Matchups:
  • The two teams have played 15 times.
  • Old Dominion leads the series 11-4 and won the meeting last season 13-6.
Matching the Monarchs:
  • The Monarchs have faced three Big South opponents: Gardner Webb (12-8 Win), Furman (12-11 OT Win), and Winthrop (12-11 Loss). 
  • Natalie Calandra-Ryan, a graduate student, leads Old Dominion in goals (18), draw controls (45), points (25), and caused turnovers (13), and she has 10 ground balls as well.
  • Calandra-Ryan has been honorable mention for American Athletic Conference weekly honors twice this season.
  • Brynn Bowen (5-4) has been the key netminder for the Monarchs. She has posted 82 saves and a 0.482 save percentage. In the American Conference standings, Bowen is second in save percentage and second in saves per game.
  • Bowen has racked up American Athletic Conference Honors: Pre-Season All-Conference Team, Goalkeeper of the Week (March 2), and honorable mention (March 26). 
  • Lydia Laney (six goals, 13 assists), Molly Heimerl (eight goals, 11 assists), Maria Snyder (11 goals, five assists), Annalynn Pompetti (nine goals, two assists) and Jules Mills (10 goals, one assist) round out the scoring efforts for Old Dominion.
  • Calandra-Ryan (45 draw controls) and Mills (27 draw controls) dominate the draw circle. Sofia Snyder (14 draw controls) is the third player with at least 10 draw controls this season.
Going to Goal:
  • Madison Rogers has scored in all five games for the Lancers. Currently, Rogers has 12 goals and two assists for 14 points. In two of the matches, Rogers has tied her career best of four goals in one game.  
  • Bailey Stratton has also found success for Longwood, with five goals and two assists. Stratton has scored in all but one game this season. 
  • Alexandra Hirst rounds out the key scoring effort for the Lancers, with four goals and two assists. 
  • The trio of players leading the team in points are all sophomores.
Defending the Smurf Turf:
  • A trio of seniors have been at the helm for the Longwood defense: Lily Stohlman, Zenie Newsom and Alexandra Burst.
  • Stohlman leads the team in caused turnovers (eight) and is tied for the team lead in ground balls (11).
  • Newsom has matched Stohlman with 11 ground balls, and she has seven caused turnovers.
  • Burst, meanwhile, has six CTs and eight ground balls.
On the Circle:
  • Jordan Fitzgerald has been a two-way midfielder, with 19 draw controls and two caused turnovers. She has added a trio of goals as well.
  • Alexandra Hirst has added 12 draw controls, good for second on the team.
  • Montgomery Bedford currently has eight draw controls, with freshman Sienna Huffman following with five. 
Breaking Records:
  • Isabella McCullough (0-5) has been the primary goalkeeper for the Lancers this season. This season, McCullough has 60 saves, with a .462 save percentage. 
  • In her last game, McCullough set the school record of saves in one game with 21 against Liberty. In that match, she posted a 0.583 save percentage. She is also tied for second in the Big South record book for saves in one game. 
  • McCullough is ranked second in the NCAA for saves per game, 45th in total saves, and 34th in save percentage.
Big South Matchups Begin:
  • After this home match, the Lancers will hit the road to kick off their Big South Conference games. March 25th, they will face the Wofford Terriers in Spartanburg, South Carolina.  
  • After battling the Terriers, the Lancers will return home to honor their seniors against Winthrop, March 28th at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field.
