FARMVILLE, Va. – AJ Koval led the way for Longwood men's cross country on a warm Saturday morning at the Lancer Pink Invitational.
 
Koval shaved more than a minute off his personal best time and finished eighth in a strong field to lead the Lancers, who had two runners finish in the top 10.
 
The Lancers finished third, only 10 points behind Radford in second.
 
NOTABLE RESULTS:
 
Longwood finished with 67 points, only 10 behind the Highlanders. High Point took the top spot at the event.
 
The team's top four runners—all freshman—all set personal bests.
 
Koval's time of 26:41.6 shaved more than a minute off his previous personal best.
 
Andrew Hathaway was hot on his heels with a 26:47.5 that was nearly two minutes faster than his prior personal best as he finished 10^th.
 
Jaiden Santos-Nguyen put together a 27:07.10 to finish in 16^th while knocking a minute off his best time.
 
Sean Arjona scooted across the line at 27:51.6, knocking two minutes off his time from two weeks ago.
 
Clinton Clancy was the team's fifth and final scoring runner with a 28:07.20, and he finished in 28^th.
 
Joshua Martin (28:38.20) and Javier Roldan (28:42.70) finished 32^nd and 33^rd, respectively, to round out the team's top seven.
 
WHAT THEY SAID:
 
"They came out and put themselves in it today," said Longwood Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Brooke Craig. "This was a big step in the right direction. We've raced home for the past two weeks, and we're ready to hit the road in our next training phase with the goal of chasing the record book."
 
"AJ ran a gutsy race for a freshman, and it paid off," Craig added about her team's top finisher.
