MECHANICSVILLE, Va. – The young bucks led the way for Longwood men's cross country on Saturday morning. Two freshmen made strong debuts, and five Lancers earned spots on the program's 6k leaderboard.
 
Freshman Jaiden Santos-Nguyen's 19:18 run – the second-fastest 6k in program history, set the table for the squad as the top five finishers all finished in less than 20 minutes to wipe out half of the team's top 10 times in team history.
 
NOTABLE RESULTS:
Santos Nguyen ripped off his 19:18 that saw him finish 44^th overall out of 138 runners in his Longwood debut. He is the second freshman since 2023 to put his name on the leaderboard.
 
Four other Lancers also posted a top 10 time in program history: AJ Koval, Clinton Clancy, Andrew Hathaway, and Christian Reid.
 
While Santos Nguyen had the team's top individual finish, Koval was nipping on his heels with a 19:19.6 that placed him 46^th in the field.
 
Clancy, who came into the day tied for the eighth fastest 6K time in team history, tore off a 19:28.3 to finish 53^rd.
 
Christian Reid was the fifth team member under 20 minutes, posting a personal-best time of 19:53.5.
 
Other personal bests include Bryce Christian, Josh Martin and Chris Smith.
 
As a team, the Lancers finished eighth overall out of 13 squads by lowering 17 seconds off the team average time to 19:31.
 
WHAT THEY SAID:
"We came into this race with some big goals for both teams," said Head Coach Brooke Craig. "They wanted to improve the team performances from previous years and our average scoring time. They did exactly what we set out to do. It was a full team effort and an excellent start to the season."
