Gonzalez Paiva, Puech, Uribe Named CSC Academic All-District

Trio recognized for academic, athletic prowess

FARMVILLE, Va. — Graduate student Mauricio Gonzalez Paiva and juniors Timéo Puech and Alejandro Uribe of the Longwood men's tennis team have been named to the 2024-25 Academic All-District® NCAA Division I Team as selected by the College Sports Communicators, the organization announced Tuesday.

Gonzalez Paiva, a Corrientes, Argentina, native, who carried a 3.64 grade-point average for his undergraduate degree at Southeastern Oklahoma State and has a 3.78 in his MBA program, was named Big South Co-Newcomer of the Year in 2025, becoming the Lancers' first-ever major conference award winner in men's or women's tennis at the Division I level. He also was part of the  first-team doubles and second-team singles squads.

Gonzalez Paiva went 15-16 in singles overall in all competition. He was was 7-10 in dual action and 5-3 at No. 3 singles. Gonzalez Paiva was a team-leading 15-9 in doubles play, including finishing 9-4 in spring duals and 9-3 from the top doubles flight. Gonzalez Paiva was named Big South Player of the Week on March 26, playing to a perfect 4-0 record as the Lancers topped George Mason and Howard.

He was also Longwood's representative on the Big South All-Academic Team.

Puech, of Maisons-Alfort, France, who has a 3.56 GPA in business administration, earned Big South first-team honors in singles and doubles this season. Puech earned his second first-team singles nod in as many years while being part of the first team in doubles this season for the first time after earning second-team doubles recognition in 2024. He was a team-leading 21-9 in singles action this season, including going 12-4 in duals, all from the top spot. He is 16-6 in doubles play, going 9-4 in duals.

Puech was named Big South Player of the Week this season on Feb. 12.

Uribe of Medellín, Colombia, has a 3.55 GPA in business administration, was named to the All-Big South first team in doubles in 2025. Teaming with freshman Marko Mrdak, Uribe was 5-10 at the No. 3 position, including victories over No. 1 Wake Forest, George Mason, William & Mary and Howard.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.0 scale and be a starter or key contributor to their respective team.
 
All three players will now advance to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® ballot. Those honors will be announced at a later date.

Since 1952, the award has recognized the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The Academic All-America® program separately recognizes men's and women's tennis honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Longwood (7-11) earned the No. 3 seed, advancing to the Big South semifinals for the second consecutive season in 2025.
