WHAT THEY SAID:
"We pretty much lived a nightmare this week," said Longwood Head Coach
Kevin Fillman. "Looking back, there are so many things that could have, and definitely should have, gone differently. First, I could have coached better. Obviously, the scoreboard says that the players could have played better. We've learned the 'it all comes down to one shot' lesson way too many times over the years, but, truth be told, we left so many shots out there over 54 holes that missing by one shot shouldn't have even been an issue."
"In the end, it's a shame for our season to end without even giving ourselves a chance to win the tournament," Fillman said. "We never shied away from talking about winning here being our top goal, and to not meet that goal hurts badly. We had a really good team that played very well all year, and we picked the worst week possible to not play well. I feel absolutely awfully for the guys whose eligibility ended today. Every one of those guys has given so much to both our golf program and to Longwood. I really wish I could have written a different ending for them. I would have done so in a heartbeat."
