Lancers Climb To Seventh At The Nashville Invitational

Sheldon Climbs Into Top 13, Wang Cards Hole-In-One

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Longwood women's golf put together its best round of the tournament with a team score of 297 in the third and final round of The Nashville Invitational on Tuesday.

The 297 was the second-best round of the day in the 16-team field, and it allowed Longwood to climb up into seventh place.

Abiagail Sheldon and Hannah Wang led the way, with the duo finishing inside the top 25 as Sheldon tied for 13th while Wang tied for 23rd.

Wang also hit a hole in one, the first of the season for the Lancers, on the seventh hole, in the process.

NOTABLE RESULTS:

The 297 for Longwood marked the fourth round below 300 this season for the team, and it allowed Longwood to climb into the top half of the field with a 313-301-297—911 (+47)

Sheldon was excellent, carding an even-par 72, one of only three rounds at par or better on the day, to climb up 10 spots into a tie for 13th. It marks the fifth time in six events she has finished inside the top 13.

The freshman closed well, posting birdies in three birdies in her final eight holes. She finished with a three-round score of 79-73-72—224 (+8).

Meanwhile, Wang put together her best three rounds of the season en route to tying for 23rd. Her ace on the par 3 seventh hole helped her post a second straight 74, and she had a birdie as well on the day.

She finished with a three-round tally of 80-74-74—228 (+12) to climb up 14 spots.

Ester Choi moved up six spots into a tie for 31st with a 78-76-76—230 (+14). She carded three birdies in her final round and played even golf in her final nine holes.

Breanna Hoese was Longwood's biggest riser of the day, climbing up 15 spots into a tie for 35th in the 91-player field. She had a pair of birdies in the final round for her best score of the three rounds at 73. She finished with a 76-80-75—231 (+15).

Chiara Wippert tied for 58th.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"I'm incredibly proud of the team's efforts today!" said Longwood Head Coach Megan Weaver. "We beat the tournament champions, Iowa, in today's round. For the tournament overall, we beat a lot of really good teams. It's tough to move up in the final round, so the two-spot improvement was a real feat! Hannah had a hole-in-one, and Abigail had another top 15 finish, but the tournament results overall were a real team effort."
