FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood men's golfer
Matthew Lyons was named the Big South Men's Golfer of the Week today, the conference office announced.
Â
Lyons was the top finisher for the Lancers at the ODU/Kilmarlic Intercollegiate and helped Longwood finish third despite tough playing conditions that featured rain and heavy wind.
Â
Lyons led the tournament field with three eagles, one in each of his three rounds, while posting three consistent rounds despite the challenging conditions and adjusted tournament schedule that saw the team play 27 holes on back-to-back days.
Â
Over three rounds, Lyons carded a 69-71-72—212 (-1) thanks to his three eagles that coupled with seven birdies.
Â
On the season, Lyons has played well after recovering from an injury that sidelined him for the 2024-25 campaign. He has steadily improved his ranks in the three tournaments he has played, with the third-place finish at the ODU/Kilmarlic Intercollegiate representing his best finish of the year.
Â
He is the second Lancer to earn Big South Golfer of the Week honors after
Gabriel Mainella picked up the accolade when he won the Colonel Classic in September.
Â
The Lancer men have completed their fall season and will return to the course in the spring at The Savannah Intercollegiate on February 21-22.
