Men's Golf Wraps Virtues Intercollegiate Tied For Fifth

Weather Disrupts Play, Lancers Battle to End

NASHPORT, Ohio – Longwood men's golf spent the first day of the Virtues Intercollegiate battling the elements, and the struggles continued despite the shortening of the tournament on day two.

Longwood tied for fifth with Wright State amid soggy, challenging conditions at The Virtues Golf Club to close the 36-hole event.

NOTABLE RESULTS:

Play began at 8:30 a.m. after rain throughout the night, and play ultimately was delayed after a handful of holes. All five Longwood golfers had between 4-7 holes remaining to start the day, and the delay impacted the final group, which Longwood was a part of, the most.

The rain finally lessened—but didn't stop—allowing the greens to be squeegeed enough for the final wave of teams to complete the event.

Justin LaRue closed as Longwood's top finisher, posting an even-par 72 in the second round. He tied for seventh in the field. He finished the two rounds with a 70-72—142 (-2).

Hunter Swidzinski and Scott Jordan both tied for 18th to give the Lancers three top 20 finishers in the 91 player field. The two shot a 75 in the second round. The two fired matching cards of 69-75—144 (E).

WHAT THEY SAID:

"We did not post a good score, but I have to say that we have some tough dudes in the van this week," said Longwood Head Coach Kevin Fillman. "There's no doubt that our wave drew the short stick as far as the weather went. I'm proud of our guys for going out there battling not only the weather and the golf course but, at times, themselves. It was not the most fun any of us have ever had, but, having gone through it, we'll use it to be better somewhere down the road."
