NOTABLES:
Â
A full team effort has the team sitting just four strokes back of the top four. The top three teams had golfers on the course, so scores from round two were not completely final. Longwood's golfers were able to finish the second round before dark.
Â
Breanna Hoese led the way with the low round on the day for the Lancers, but players up and down the lineup had solid moments for Longwood. She had three birdies over the two rounds on a long course.
Â
Lauren Sims lined up two of her best rounds of the season, and she closed strong with two birdies and seven pars in her final nine holes on the day.
Â
Annabelle Jennings was solid and consistent to finish tied for 33
rd in the 90 player field. She had 25 pars in 36 holes of golf.
Â
Emma Landis helped the team get off to a good start on the day, and she had two of her three birdies in the opening round.
Â
Ester Choi's opening round 76 was a solid start, and she had two birdies on the day. Aine Martin also birdied her final hole of the day to close strong.
Â
WHAT THEY SAID:
Â
"I couldn't be happier with the execution, composure and result of the first round," said Longwood Head Coach
Megan Weaver. "This is the toughest field we've competed against. On paper, we were expected to be in 13
th or 14
th. I attribute our success to better decision-making—which minimized our double-bogey or worse holes—and our short game.
Â
"We are playing 400 yards farther than usual tournament distance," Weaver added. "Our scores may not look as low as usual, because we are essentially playing another hole's worth of distance. We adapted nicely, and our results reflect it."
