HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
The Lancers sit ninth, two shots back of eighth and seven shots back of fifth place. The field features seven Big South teams. The Lancers lead Winthrop and Radford and are four shots back of UNC Asheville in seventh and seven back of both High Point and USC Upstate in a tie for fifth.
Â
Choi was lights out in her first 18 holes, where she posted seven of her nine birdies on the day. Her nine birdies through the two rounds tied for the second most in the field.
Â
Choi added 20 pars as well, and the 69 was the team's best individual round this season.
Â
Annabelle Jennings climbed up the standings after shaving five shots off her opening round score. She notched a team-best even-par 72 in the second round to finish tied for 31
st on the day.
Â
Jennings and
Lauren Sims, who shot an opening-round 72, both had five birdies apiece. Sims' round of 72 was her best round of the season.
Â
Emma Landis had six birdies, and
Breanna Hoese led the team with 23 pars.
Â
WHAT THEY SAID:
Â
"We started off really strong, leading the tournament through the first nine holes," said Longwood Head Coach
Megan Weaver. "As the day progressed, we didn't adjust to the dying greens and subsequently had too many three putts. There are a lot of tight holes on the course that led to doubt and mental mistakes."
Â
"Ester had a fantastic first round," Weaver added. "I'm really proud of the composure she kept throughout. We finished the last nine holes better, so hopefully that momentum carries into tomorrow."
