GREENSBORO, N.C. – Breanna Hoese led the charge, and Longwood women's golf closed well in their final fall tournament at the UNCG Collegiate.
 
Hoese finished fourth for her first top-five finish as a Lancer, and both Abigail Sheldon and Chiara Wippert were in the top 20 as well. The Lancer women climbed up the leaderboard as a team to finish third out of nine teams.
 
NOTABLE RESULTS:
 
The Lancers were the biggest movers on the day, climbing up three spots to third behind only High Point and the hosts, UNCG. Longwood finished six strokes clear of Marshall, and the team posted a 301-292-295—888 (+24).
 
Hoese zipped up the standings by seven spots to claim sole possession of fourth behind a one-under 71 in the final round. She had an incredibly consistent round with 15 pars and two birdies.
 
For her, it was her best collegiate finish as she finished the tournament under par with a 76-68-71—215 (-1).
 
Sheldon also moved up the standings with a one-under 71 in the final round. The freshman lowered her score in each of the three rounds to finish tied for 11^th on the strength of a 74-73-71—218 (+2). In the final round, Sheldon had five birdies.
 
Wippert carded another top 20 finish, tying for 18^th, after staying solid for three rounds. She posted a 74-73-76—223 (+7).
 
Ester Choi moved up five spots with a 77 in her final round to tie for 34^th. She had a 77-78-77—232 (+16) over the two days.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"It was a great finish to the tournament and the fall season!" said Longwood Head Coach Megan Weaver. "I'm so proud of the team's performance today. I had the goal of a third place finish, and it was awesome to see the focus and execution to move up three spots and secure it!"

"We played with two of the teams that were ahead of us going into round three," Weaver added. "It can go either way in gaining momentum by beating them or be discouraging if your playing partners keep draining birdies. We stayed in the right headspace, and they earned the ice cream I promised to make for them for a thid place finish!"
