LaRue Wins AGAIN, Claims OBX Intercollegiate Crown

Senior Cards 202, Wins Fifth Collegiate Tournament

POWELLS POINT, N.C. – Justin LaRue is on a roll. The senior followed up his win last week at the Phoenix Invitational with a second straight win, this time at the OBX Intercollegiate.

He finished one stroke back of the team three-round scoring record he set last week, carding a 71-64-67—202 (-11).

That effort helped Longwood climb up into a tie for fifth out of 14 teams on the leaderboard with the University of North Dakota. Longwood was eight shots back of Saint Joseph's (PA) in fourth.

NOTABLE RESULTS:

LaRue, who is now the program record holder in wins, lowest 54-hole score, and career scoring average, won his fifth collegiate tournament, and he won by three strokes over Drue Nicholas of Drexel.

He not only has the lowest 54-hole score, he has the top three 54-hole scores in team history. He posted a 201 at the Phoenix Invitational, a 202 at the OBX Intercollegiate this week, and a 203 at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate last spring.

This time, he led the 73-player field with 18 birdies, including five in his final round. He closed strong, as always, with three birdies and seven straight pars in his final 10 holes.

Scott Jordan matched LaRue on the day, firing a 67 of his own to climb into a tie for 31st. Jordan's round saw him play at par or better for all 18 holes, and he birdied back-to-back-to-back holes on his front nine to get off to a solid start. He finished with a 79-73-67—219 (+6).

Cameron Hardison closed the tournament tied for 41st after a three-round effort of 71-75-76—222 (+9).

Nick Fleming put together a final-round 74 for a 77-74-74—225 (+12) to move into a tie for 48th, and Hunter Swidzinski carved out his best round of the weekend with a final round 71. He climbed into a tie for 53rd with an 81-75-71—227 (+14).

WHAT THEY SAID:

"We fired on a few more cylinders today, which was good to see as we head into the offseason," said Longwood Head Coach Kevin Fillman. "Justin was unbelievable again. The scary thing is that he did it without having his best game for much of the round. I know he would admit to that too. As great players do, he found a way."

"Scott's round was very impressive as well," said Fillman. "There's trouble everywhere out here, especially with the wind swirling around, so to go bogey-free is really good. Now that the fall season is done, we're going to take a few days off then get back to work on the things we need to improve upon starting next week. Our goal remains the same—reclaim the Big South Championship."
