FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood men's cross country put in the work and it paid off on Friday afternoon at the Longwood cross country course.
Â
The Lancers finished first at the Lancer Pink Invitational, with eight runners placing in the top 10.
Benjamin Goulet paced the team, and
Saad Khan and
Jordyn Dillavou were right behind him. A total of six runners in the group set personal bests.
Â
NOTABLE RESULTS:
Â
Goulet, fresh off setting the program's 8K record a week ago, led the team once again with a 26:19.1 that was just outside the top 10 times in team history.
Â
Khan, meanwhile, ripped off a 26:26.4 that shaved almost 30 seconds off his personal best set six days ago.
Â
Dillavou cruised to a 26:38.1 to give Longwood three finishers inside the top five.
Â
Clinton Clancy then led a train of Lancers across the line, with six straight runners in navy crossing the finish line. Clancy had a 27:13.4, and
Javier Roldan followed in seventh with a 27:22.1. For Roldan, it marked a second straight PR, and he was the fifth and final Lancer to score.
Â
Kadin Nitsch, a freshman, posted a 27:54.1 that was nearly 90 seconds faster than his previous best effort while finishing ninth.
Â
Bryce Christian was right behind him with a 28:00.7 that also served as his personal best by nearly 1:45. He finished 10
th.
Â
Daniel Duarte, with a 29:43.1, and Joshua Martin, with a 30:08.6, both carved off more than 90 seconds off their previous best times as well.
Â
WHAT THEY SAID:
Â
"The goal today was to focus on practicing pacing and race strategies," said Longwood Director of Cross Country & Track
Brooke Craig. "It paid off with plenty of PRs and personal bests. We have one more test before conference, and I think they are ready. The job's not done yet."
