WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Emma Landis and
Grace Huffman led the way, and Longwood women's golf notched their best finish of the 2022-23 season. The Lancers were third among 19 teams at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate, and every single player finished in the top half of the field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
After a rain delay and darkness suspended round two on Monday afternoon, the Lancers finished their second round on Tuesday morning before going out for their third and final round. The team shot a 310, which was the four-best round on the day in the field, and it allowed Longwood to stay in third place by four strokes.
The third-place finish is Longwood's best of the season, and it comes amidst a 19-team competitive field. The Lancers were the best team in the field on Par 3s with an average score of 3.08.
Landis and Huffman used final-round 76s to finish in the top 12 of the field, with Landis tying for ninth with a 227. She had 13 pars and a birdie in her final round. Landis averaged an even par on Par 3s over the course of the tournament, and she tied for the seventh-most birdies in the field with seven.
Huffman, meanwhile, was consistent with three straight scores in the mid-70s to finish in sole possession of 12
th place for one of her strongest performances of the season. She was the top performer on the course on Par 3s, posting an average score of 2.83.
Annabelle Jennings just missed out on a top 15 finish and tied for 16
th with a three-round score of 231. In her final round, she posted four birdies. She tied with Landis on average score on Par 3s, averaging an even 3.00.
Peyton Schaffer carded a final-round 79 to finish tied for 45
th, and
Ester Choi also had a final-round 79 to finish in the top half of the field in a tie for 52
nd. For Schaffer, she shaved one stroke off her first two rounds, and Choi knocked seven strokes off her second round.
WHAT THEY SAID:
"We didn't play our best in the final round, but it was definitely a solid tournament," said Longwood Head Coach
Brittany Dabule. "I'm proud of the team for their play in the first round and then grinding it out in the second round, which set us up well heading into the final round."
"Emma had another solid tournament, coming off her third place finish last week," Dabule added. "Grace played well and kept it steady throughout all the rounds."
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Longwood not only had the best average score on Par 3s, but the Lancers were six strokes better than the second-place team, High Point.
The Lancers tied for the second-most pars in the field at 151.
Longwood tied for the third-most birdies in the field with 27.
Huffman, Jennings and Landis all averaged par or better on Par 3s.
Landis was also tied for seventh in average score on Par 4s at 4.23.
Jennings shot an average score of 4.92 on Par 5s, which was tied for 10
th-best in the field.
Landis and Jennings tied for the team lead with seven birdies.
