Uhl, Choi Lead Longwood Charge To Open Big South Women's Golf Championship

Lancers Sit Fourth Following Opening Round 305 In South Carolina

NINETY SIX, S.C. – A mix of experience and youth led the charge for Longwood women's golf in the opening round of the Big South Tournament on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Lancers are in sole possession of fourth after shooting an opening round 305 (+17) on the par 72, 6,297 yard course at The Patriot at Grand Harbor.
 
Senior Bobbi Uhl was remarkably consistent throughout the day and finished tied for third after shooting a 74 (+2). Uhl was steady all day by making 14 pars in 18 holes, tied for the second-most pars in the 55-player field.
 
Ester Choi nearly matched Uhl and finished the opening round in a tie for eight, just one shot back, after firing a 75 (+3). The freshman was tied for third in the tournament with four birdies on the day, and she was one of only 15 players who averaged par or better on par three's.
 
Choi's effort was part of a day that saw the sixth-seeded Lancers lead the field with 15 birdies as a team. The Lancers posted the second-best average of the field on par three's.
 
Annabelle Jennings, a sophomore, is tied for 19th after shooting a 77 (+5) on the day. Jennings tallied five birdies to tie for the lead in the field. She posted four birdies on the front nine and followed with one on the back nine.
 
Diana Domenech wrapped up the day tied for 30th after carding a 79 (+7), and Emma Landis was tied for 37th following her opening round 80 (+8).
 
The Lancers are back in action on Thursday morning and currently sit seven shots behind USC Upstate, who leads the field with an opening round 298 (+10). High Point sits in second with a 299 (+11) while Campbell is four shots ahead of Longwood after a 301 (+13) opening round.
