FARMVILLE, Va. – With a pair of even-par rounds, Longwood men's golf incoming freshman
Daniel George earned a fourth-place finish at the Ontario Men's Amateur Championship.
A product of Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada, George turned in a pair of even-par rounds of 71 to post a 72-hole score of 71-73-74-71—289 (+5) to earn a T-4 finish in the 159-player field.
The tournament is a culmination of a solid summer for George, who has made the cut in all five of his starts throughout the summer including a pair of AJGA events. He posted an 11th-place finish at the Men's Amateur Qualifying.
Last season, George placed fourth in the 2018 Canadian Junior with rounds of 68-74-69-73 while he posted rounds of 75-74-70 to place sixth at the Ontario Junior Boy's Spring Classic. George also finished top 15 in the 2018 AJGA FORE Performance Junior and the Quebec Future Links Championship. He rounded out his 2018 with a top 25 showing at the Ontario Junior.
Fellow incoming freshman
Brendan Dunphy placed 33rd in the Men's Amateur capped by a 1-under par 70 in the final round. Dunphy finished with scores of 76-78-82-70—306 (+22).
Dunphy has registered three top-10 finishes throughout the spring and summer, including a pair of top-five's at the Junior Spring Classic Boys Championship and the MJT National Team Challenge.
A product of Whitby, Ontario, Dunphy earned a top five finish at the 2018 AJGA Canadian Junior this past summer with rounds of 71-73-68 while placing top 25 at the 2018 Ontario Amateur with rounds of 76-73-76-71. He was also one of a handful of juniors to make the cut in the 2018 Canadian Amateur with rounds of 76-69-74-74.
George and Dunphy will be joined by
Christian Michael and
Miles Parroco as incoming freshmen for the 2019-20 season. Longwood will return five letterwinners from last season's team, including rising senior
Brandon Weaver, who had the team's best stroke average with a 73.50 a season ago.
