SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Longwood men's golf finished its final tournament of the regular season ninth this afternoon at the Wofford Invitational.
 
Matthew Hartley had the top day on the team, firing an even-par 71 on the par 71 course at the Country Club of Spartanburg.
 
The Lancers now gear up for the Big South Tournament, which begins on Sunday, April 26 in Fripp Island, S.C.
 
NOTABLE RESULTS:
 
Longwood slid two spots in the standings on the day, finishing two shots behind fellow Big South foe Radford.
 
The team carded a 286-293-300—879 (+27) over the three-day event.
 
Hartley recorded three birdies in the round today to move up 15 spots into a tie for 50^th. He improved all three rounds and fired a 77-75-71—223 (+10).
 
David Lafreniere and Hunter Swidzinski were the top finishers on the team at the tournament, and they tied for 41^st. Lafreniere carded a 70-72-79—221 (+8). The junior recorded two birdies on the day and eight over his 54 holes.
 
Swidzinski bounced back after a tough second round with a final-round 73. He finished with a 69-79-73—221 (+8), and he had five of his 12 birdies today.
 
Cameron Hardison tied for 46^th with a 72-72-78—222 (+9), and he had two birdies today while totaling 10 in the tournament.
 
Matthew Lyons tied for 58^th with a 75-74-78—227 (+14). He had two birdies today and finished with six birdies and an eagle overall.
 
WHAT THEY SAID:
 
"Today was not the day we envisioned, and for it to happen less than two weeks before we begin the Big South Championship is not good," said Longwood Head Coach Kevin Fillman. "Our goal is to be a championship team, so I'm very surprised with how we reacted. Who knows? Maybe it will serve as a blessing to us. I think the best thing for us to do is forget about it and go get back to work."
