NINETY-SIX, S.C. – Senior
Nick Contini carded a one-over par 73 to climb into the top 20 on the individual leaderboard on day two of the Big South Championship Saturday at the 7,120-yard, par 72 The Patriot Club at Grand Harbor.
Â
Contini climbed six spots on the individual leaderboard, moving to T-20 overall with his one-over par round. The senior played his first nine at even par before playing his back nine at one-over to post his seventh round of 73 or better this spring.
Â
Longwood posted a team total of 305 (+17) on the second day of the tournament, as the Lancers are eighth-place overall with a 36-hole score of 298-305—603 (+27). Liberty (-4, 572) carded the best round of the tournament with a 15-under 273 Saturday to take the 36 hole lead while Charleston Southern (E, 576), Campbell (+5, 581), Gardner-Webb (+6, 582) and High Point (+7, 583) round out the top five.
Â
"As the scoring shows, the golf course was much more getable today," said Longwood head coach
Kevin Fillman. "We had a chance to be one of the teams that put up a good number, and, from what I saw for most of the round, it looked like we would do so. Unfortunately, we were just bad over the final few holes. There's no excuse, we did it to ourselves."
Â
Brandon Weaver posted a five-over par 77 highlighted by three birdies, as he's the second Lancer to finish the day among the field's top 25. Weaver looks to solidify his sixth consecutive top 30 finish in Sunday's final round.
Â
Highlighted by a team-best four birdies,
Teagan Stephenson posted Longwood's second-best round of the day with a four-over 76 to climb the individual leaderboard. Stephenson played his front nine at one-under par, as he secured his fifth score of 76 or better in his last six rounds.
Â
Jordan Boulton turned in a seven-over par 79 highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 fifth to finish the day T32 overall while
Adam Szwed posted an eight-over 80 to enter the final round 31st overall.
Â
"We have to keep our heads up and go show what we're made of tomorrow," Fillman said.
Â
Longwood looks to make a final round charge on the leaderboard, as third round play is set to begin at 8:30 a.m.
