ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Coming off a strong showing in the previous two team tournaments and the program's first-ever ITA quarterfinalist, Longwood men's tennis kept their torrid pace alive with eight singles and six doubles wins in the opening rounds of the Navy Gold Invitational Friday afternoon.

Just four days after making history as the first Lancer to reach the ITA Atlantic Regionals quarterfinals, Amadeo Blasco kept his red-hot fall campaign rolling with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Loyola's Reid Burch to kick-off the eight-win singles play by the blue and white.

Joining Blasco in the stacked singles win column were Valentin Popescu – who joined Blasco as the only two Lancers in program history with Round of 16 appearance in the ITA Regionals – Raisei Sakai, Arthur Bardellotto, Julian Farthing, Daniel Hernandez, Jorge Godoy and Rosen Naydenov.

In doubles play, it was more of the same as the duos of Blasco/Sakai, Bardellotto/Farthing, Godoy/Popescu and Hernandez/Manser combined for a 6-1 record to finish off the 14-2 overall performance.

Playing with Seth McNair from Navy, freshman Rosen Naydenov finished his doubles day with a hard-fought 6-3 loss as the duo will compete in the back draw quarterfinals.

With the 8-1 singles record Friday, Longwood will have eight competitors in the 12 total singles quarterfinals matchups slated for Saturday afternoon.

One statistic from Friday that shows just how dominant the Lancers were: each of the eight wins in singles were straight-set victories.

Day two of the tournament gets underway at 9 a.m. with two rounds of doubles play followed by two rounds of singles action from the United States Naval Academy.
