FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Longwood men's tennis continued its strong start to the fall season with a series of victories at the UMW Kickoff Classic on Saturday and Sunday at the Battleground Athletic Complex.
Daniel Borisov, Marc Ferrando and Rodrigo Guijarro each posted multiple singles victories for the Lancers during the two-day event. Borisov defeated George Mason's Deniz Okyay 7-6 (4), 6-1, before beating Johns Hopkins' Adam Stavrakas 6-4, 7-5.
Ferrando earned three victories, defeating George Mason's Ekansh Kumar 6-3, 6-0, UMW's Asher Willenborg 7-5, 6-7 (2), 10-7 and Johns Hopkins' Mukundh Boopathi 6-2, 6-2.
Guijarro also went 3-0 in singles, defeating George Mason's Edgar Vilain 6-4, 6-1, UMW's Jack Riordan 6-3, 6-0 and Johns Hopkins' Chakor Rajendra 6-7 (4), 6-0, 10-4.
Ricards Spaks added a singles victory against Johns Hopkins, defeating Jacob Jiang 6-1, 7-5.
Marko Mrdak split his two singles matches, defeating UMW's Trevor Rein 4-6, 6-2, 10-7 before falling to Johns Hopkins' Dylan Blenkiron 4-6, 7-6 (3), 10-7.
John Felts also earned a victory Sunday, defeating UMW's Albert Vladimirskiy 6-4, 7-6 (2).
Longwood's doubles teams also produced a strong weekend. Borisov and Spaks went 3-0, defeating teams from Johns Hopkins, UMW and George Mason. Guijarro and Ferrando also went 3-0, while Orry Farnworth and Mrdak split their three matches.
In all, Longwood won 12 singles and seven doubles matches on the weekend. The Lancers are 23-10 (.697) overall in singles and 11-4 (.733) in doubles action through the first two fall events of 2026.
Longwood returns to the court next Friday-Sunday at the Davidson Invitational.
