ROME, Ga. – Senior
Daniel Borisov put together an impressive run through the consolation draw to reach the championship match, highlighting the Longwood men's tennis team's performance at the 2026 ITA Conference Masters Championship this week at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College.
Borisov opened the singles main draw against Alberto Altur of North Alabama -- whom he faced when the Lancers faced the Lions in the UTR Sports NIT Championship semifinals last May in Rome -- falling 7-6 (4), 6-2 in the main draw. He responded with consecutive victories in the consolation bracket to advance to the final.
The Dublin, Ireland native began his journey with a hard-fought 2-6, 7-6 (9), 6-2 comeback victory over Stefanos Pournaropoulos of Mount St. Mary's. Borisov then advanced past Semen Aginskiy of St. John's by walkover before defeating Ball State's Andrei Caragea 6-2, 7-5 to earn his place in the consolation championship.
Borisov's run ended there, however, as he was unable to compete against UNCW's Andrew Hayduke II, who rejected Longwood's request to reschedule the match to Saturday to accommodate the Lancers' prearranged travel.
In doubles competition, the Longwood tandem of Marc Ferrando and Rodrigo Guijarro competed in both the main and consolation draws.
Ferrando and Guijarro opened against Troy's Louis Boilevin and Henrique de Brito, dropping a tight match 3-6, 7-6 (5), 10-5. The Lancers then faced Presbyterian's Rafael Asadullin and Dario Navarro -- the pair they faced in the Big South Individual Doubles final two weeks ago -- in the consolation draw, falling 7-5, 6-3 to conclude their tournament.
Longwood concludes the fall 47-29 (.629) in singles and 19-15 (.559) in doubles across six tournaments.
