Freshman (2017-18): Finished with a 19-12 record overall, 13-8 in the spring...went 3-4 in Big South play...went 13-14 in doubles, 2-5 in the Big South and 10-11 in the spring...first Lancer to be named Freshman of the Week twice (Feb. 14, March 14)...All-Big South second team singles...was brilliant in 3-set matches, winning 4 of 6...only freshman to make the Round of 16 at ITA Regionals in program history......held an 8-4 record at flight two and 5-2 record at flight three...most wins in the four-man freshman class...went 13-12 in doubles play with partner Jorge Godoy... Longwood Scholar-Athlete...Longwood Freshman Male Athlete of the Year.

Prior to Longwood: Valentin Popescu comes to Longwood as a top-1,600 player in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) rankings on the senior circuit.

Personal: Son of Catalin and Rodica Popescu…has an older sister (Lucia Maria Popescu – 23)…majoring in business management.
