Elston, Johnson Enjoy Victorious Senior Day, 7-0

Longwood Concludes Regular Season With Win Over Bridgewater College

FARMVILLE, Va. – Dan Elston and Steed Johnson won their final home doubles match, before each winning their singles match in straight sets to lead the Lancers to a 7-0 victory over Bridgewater College on senior day at Lancer Courts.

The victory also secured the fifth straight win for the Lancers, as the squad enters the Big South Tournament with an 8-15 mark.

"Both Dan and Steed are tremendous assets to the program," said head coach Marty Perry. "The energy and dedication they bring each day is monumental. They have both set the bar high for future team leaders and have made a significant impact on current team members. Both will be missed for years to come."

After being presented their senior gifts prior to the start of the match, Elston and Johnson teamed up atop the doubles lineup to secure their fourth straight win over Bridgewater College's Christian Lynn and Kyle Hartfield, 8-3.

Longwood swept the doubles point for the third straight match, as Alfonso Castellano and Florian Uffer earned an 8-4 victory over Brandon Larsen and Thomas Rishcoff at the No. 2 position. On court three, Bharani Sankar and Rosen Ilchev posted a dominant 8-1 victory over Kyle Bowers and Aaron Snook.

In singles, Elston and Johnson each picked up a win in straight sets. Elston downed Larsen atop the lineup, 6-2, 6-1. Johnson picked up his fourth straight win from the No. 3 spot in the order over Lynn, 6-1, 6-1.

Castellano earned a 6-0, 6-2 win over Hartfield at the No. 2 spot in the order, while Uffer also won by a 6-0, 6-2 margin at the No. 4 position over Rischott. At the fifth position, Sankar defeated Snook, 6-0, 6-2, while Ilchev completed the shutout with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Kris Stokes.

Longwood opens play in the Big South Championship Saturday, as the squad will play as the ninth overall seed. The Lancers will play eighth-seeded Gardner-Webb Saturday, April 18 at 9 a.m.
