NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Longwood men's tennis opened the 2026-27 season with a strong showing at the CNU Duals on Saturday and earning 11 singles victories and four doubles wins against Hampton and Christopher Newport on the Eyre Courts.
The Lancers went a combined 6-0 in singles against Hampton, with Daniel Borisov, Marc Ferrando, Marko Mrdak, Rodrigo Guijarro, Ricards Spaks and John Felts each earning victories.
Borisov defeated Hampton's Rafael Padilha 6-4, 6-0, while Ferrando posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Kohei Konishi. Mrdak defeated Aryan Arora 6-3, 6-0, and Guijarro won after Kevin Jorquera retired with Guijarro leading 6-3, 1-0.
Spaks added a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Ibrahim Carrington, while Felts completed Longwood's singles sweep with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Jude Killikelly.
Longwood also collected five singles victories against host Christopher Newport. Borisov defeated Rainer Christiansen 6-2, 6-4, and Ferrando cruised past Gabe Smith 6-3, 6-1. Mrdak defeated Nathan Russell 6-4, 6-0, while Guijarro beat Andrew Kinnear 6-4, 6-2.
Orry Farnworth added a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Jamison Wallace.
Spaks narrowly fell to CNU's Matt Miller in a three-set battle, losing 7-6 (5), 2-6, 14-12, while Felts dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to D. Garcia Carrasco.
In doubles, Longwood earned two victories against Hampton. Ferrando and Guijarro defeated Arora and Konishi 6-2, while Mrdak and Farnworth beat Carrington and Killikelly 6-2.
Against Christopher Newport, Borisov and Spaks teamed for a 6-2 victory over Christiansen and Smith, while Guijarro and Ferrando defeated Sam Halvorsen and Wallace 6-1.
Longwood is back in action next Saturday and Sunday at Mary Washington's Kickoff Classic.
