FARMVILLE, Va. – The Longwood men's tennis team defeated its third opponent in its past five matches Wednesday, as the Lancers earned a 7-0 victory over Chowan at Lancer Courts.

"The guys played hard today," said Longwood head coach Marty Perry. "Collectively, we showed good discipline by putting a lot of shots in play in both singles and doubles. It was great to see them come together and get the win."

The Lancers won five of the six matches in straight sets. Dan Elston continued his impressive tear, as he defeated Farid Hajizada, 6-1, 6-2, at the top position. The win for Elston is his fifth in his last six matches, as he runs his record to 13-6 on the season.

Steed Johnson picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Enrique Barge at the fourth position, while Rosen Ilchev won his second collegiate match with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Sasha Kirsanov at the No. 6 position. Florian Uffer cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 final on court three against Ivan Doubograev, while Alfonso Castellano earned a 6-2, 7-5 victory against Rafael Goncalves.

Bharani Sankar pulled out a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (4) win in the closest match of the day at the No. 5 spot in the order.

Longwood opened the match by sweeping the doubles point. Elston and Johnson teamed up to defeat Hajizada and Goncalves, 8-0, at the top of the order, while Sankar and Ilchev earned an 8-2 victory over Ramirez and Barge at the No. 3 spot. Longwood completed the sweep, as Castellano and Uffer overwhelmed Galovik and Doubograev, 8-2.

Longwood returns to the courts Thursday against Campbell at 1 p.m.
