WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Longwood men's tennis team dropped its match against William & Mary, 7-0, Sunday afternoon at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center. The Lancers fall to 0-4 on the season, while the Tribe improves to 10-5 on the campaign.
William & Mary captured the crucial doubles point by winning the matches on courts one and three. On court one, the duo of Addison Appleby and Christian Cargill defeated Dan Elston and
Steed Johnson, 6-1, while the Longwood tandem of
Bharani Sankar and
Rosen Ilchev was defeated by Aaron Chafee and Luqman Ebriham, 6-4.
In singles, Scott Huang extended the Tribe lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over
Lachlan Manser on court four. Meanwhile, Sankar fell at the No. 6 position against Chaffee, 6-2, 6-2. Alec Miller sealed the victory for the Tribe at the fifth position with a straight set victory over Ilchev, 6-1, 6-2.
At the No. 2 position,
Alfonso Castellano fought hard before falling to Appleby, 6-3, 6-1, while Johnson fell to Lars de Boer on court three, 6-3, 6-1. William & Mary earned the sweep in the match, as Will Juggins defeated
Florian Uffer, 6-4, 6-1, at the top position of the lineup.
The Lancers will open its home schedule with a clash against cross-town foe Hampden-Sydney on Thursday, Feb. 26. The match is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
