FARMVILLE, Va. – Junior Kacey Norwood/Chantilly tallied a pair of goals and assists for a team-high four points, as the Longwood University women's lacrosse team fell, 17-7, against Big South Conference opponent High Point University (9-5, 5-0) on Saturday afternoon. The teams played back-and-forth in the first half and were tied for the final time at 5-5 before High Point scored 10 consecutive goals between the first and second halves to pull away. Sophomore Katie McHugh/Burke added to the Lancers' offensive effort with three goals on the day, while Mackenzie Carroll paced the Panthers with five goals and two assists for seven total points. Longwood (7-8, 4-1) will host Big South opponent Davidson College in the team's Senior Day game on Friday, April 25 at 4 p.m.
 
"High Point is a good team and when you play a good team, your margin for error is very slim," said head coach Elaine Jones. "We started off well, but unfortunately we just had too many unforced turnovers today. High Point was able to capitalize on those turnovers and once we lost momentum, it was tough to get it back. That being said, we'll learn from this. The players worked hard and know what they need to improve. We are already looking ahead to preparing for the next game."
 
In addition to Norwood and McHugh, four other Lancers logged one point in the decision. Senior Mary Barondess/Centreville and junior Sarah Arndt/Pasadena, Md. each found the back of the net for Longwood, while senior Lauren Prasnicki/Lexington and junior Liz Trainer/Ellicott City, Md. registered one assist apiece, as well. Sophomore Sarah Butler/Oakleigh South, Victoria, Australia led the team on draw controls with seven and junior goalkeeper Christian Acker/Moorestown, N.J. totaled eight saves in the complete-game performance.
 
Longwood was quick to attack on offense with four goals in the first five minutes of play. Norwood and Prasnicki connected to get things started before McHugh carried the ball all the way in for an unassisted goal and Barondess converted on a free position opportunity. Less than a minute later, Trainer dished a strong pass to Arndt, who fired on target to make the score 4-0 in favor of the home team. High Point would not stay down for long, though, retaliating with four quick unassisted goals of its own to knot the score. The defense for both sides went to work in the next 11 minutes, as neither side was able to pull ahead. The Lancers ended the silence with a goal from McHugh, but the Panthers added three more goals in the final three minutes of the period to take an 8-5 lead into the break.
 
Coming out of halftime, HPU took control of the momentum with seven consecutive goals in the first 16 minutes of play. McHugh scored on a pass from Norwood at 13:20 before Norwood dribbled in and found the back of the net, cutting the difference to 15-7. However, High Point tallied the last two goals of the day to secure the 17-7 decision.  
 
Saturday's contest marked the sixth meeting ever between Longwood and High Point in the sport of women's lacrosse. The Panthers now own a 6-0 advantage in the all-time series.
