ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Longwood University women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 non-conference decision at the United States Naval Academy of the Patriot League on Saturday morning in Annapolis, Maryland. Junior

Paloma Alatorre/Katy, Texas led the Lancers to victories in singles play at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively. Longwood will return to action at Hampton University of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on Saturday, February 22 at 1 p.m. in Hampton.
"It was a tough week for our team … this trip we were without one of our seniors,
Bethany Law, who earlier this week lost her grandmother," said first-year Longwood head coach
Casey Wharton. "Our hearts and prayers are with her and her family back in West Virginia. So with only five girls, and starting a point down before the match began, we knew it was going to be an uphill battle … but I thought we played very, very hard, and no point was given away. Navy is a good team, but I feel this was a match that could have gone either way, and we have nothing to hang our heads about. I look forward to practicing the next few weeks and using some of the momentum we found today!"
Allgurin defeated Katie Porter, 6-0, 6-2, to earn a point for Longwood at No. 1 singles, while Alatorre followed up with a victory at the No. 2 against Audrey Channell, 4-6, 7-6 (5), (18-16). Also in singles action, senior
Sarah Moomau/Winchester fell at No. 3 (3-6, 5-7), while freshmen
Anna Pelak/McLean (4-6, 6-4, [10-6]) and
Mason Thomas/Buchanan Dam, Texas (4-6, 1-6) were defeated at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. The Lancers forfeited the point at No. 6.
In doubles play, the duo of Allgurin and Moomau were defeated by Porter and Gabby Winter at No. 1, 5-7, and the team of Alatorre and Pelak fell to Logan Antill and Summer Ralston at the No. 2, 6-7 (4).
