FARMVILLE, Va. — The Longwood women's tennis team fell, 5-2, to George Washington on senior day at the New Lancer Courts Sunday.
Longwood (8-7) opened the day by winning the doubles point. The Lancers won on courts three and two, respectively, after Bali Song and Oriana Izarra dropped a 6-3 decision to Madison Lee and Karen Verduzco at No. 1.
Longwood rallied as Elisaveta Gnilozubova and Hima Fernando topped Alexandra Lindqvist and Devika Manu, 6-3 and Alexandra Magia and Feline van Eijkelenburg defeated Solange Skeene and Victoria Sasinka, 7-5.
In singles action, Manu beat Alexis Broderick, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 6 to tie the match, 1-1, before van Eijkelenburg came back to beat Sasinka, 0-6, 6-1, 6-1, on court two.
George Washington (7-7) won the final four matches to take the dual. Lindqvist topped Izarra, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 and Skeene outlasted Song, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, at No. 1.
Madison Lee defeated Fernando, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 3 and Verduzco beat Magia, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 to close the match.
Prior to the match, the Lancers honored their three seniors — Broderick, Gnilozubova and Izarra, along with graduate assistant coach Harriet Glaves — for their contributions to the program.
Next, Longwood jumps back into Big South play traveling to Presbyterian Thursday at 2 p.m.
