CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Longwood junior Feline van Eijkelenburg has been named Big South Conference Player of the Week in women's tennis, the league announced on Wednesday.
A Haarlem, Netherlands, native, van Eijkelenburg helped Longwood to a 2-1 week with road wins over Norfolk State and Charleston Southern, 4-3 and 4-2, respectively. She went 3-0 in singles and 1-2 in doubles. She was 2-0 at Charleston Southern winning 6-4 at No. 2 doubles and 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles as the Lancers beat the Buccaneers for the first time in 13 matches since the series began in 2013.
van Eijkelenburg is 6-5 in dual-match singles play this season and 4-7 in doubles dual play.
The Big South weekly honor is a first for van Eijkelenburg. Bali Song was named Freshman of the Week this season on Jan. 28 this season.
Longwood (6-6) is in action Wednesday at Howard. First serve is 4 p.m.
