Lauren Prasnicki/Lexington logged a game-high five assists to lead the Longwood University women's lacrosse team in a 13-8 loss at Big South Conference opponent High Point University (3-6, 1-0) on Wednesday afternoon. Four other Lancers scored two points apiece in the outing, as well. Longwood will return to action when the squad hosts in-state opponent the College of William and Mary on Saturday, March 30. First draw is scheduled for 1 p.m.
"We did some good things throughout the course of the game, but it wasn't consistent enough," said head coach
Elaine Jones. "Unfortunately, since we got in a hole early, we were always playing catch up and we just weren't able to capitalize when we had the momentum. We need to continue to focus on doing the llittle things better and we need to play for a full 60 minutes."

Longwood fell behind early, as High Point scored the first four goals of the day in less than five minutes. McHugh put the Lancers on the board when she collected a direct pass from Prasnicki for the shot on goal, making it 4-1 with 23:58 still remaining in the first half. HPU converted on a free position shot to regain a four-point margin, but Longwood answered with three consecutive goals to cut the deficit to just one at 5-4. Barondess sparked the run, thanks to the setup from Prasnicki, and Jacobson and Brentlinger followed with one goal apiece to pull the Lancers within striking distance. The visitors would not come any closer, however, as High Point tallied the final three goals of the half to take an 8-4 advantage into halftime.
The Panthers continued to attack following the break with two more goals to open the second half, taking a 10-4 lead at 27:36. McHugh and Butler each found the back of the net for the second time in the outing less than three minutes apart with assists from Arndt and Prasnicki, respectively, to pull the Lancers within four at 10-6 with less than 17 minutes to play. High Point scored on its next possession to pull ahead, 11-6, but neither squad would tally another goal for almost 12 minutes. Longwood would end the drought with an unassisted put-in from Brentlinger at 3:40, but HPU quickly retaliated with two more scores. Butler and Prasnicki connected for the final goal of the game with just eight seconds on the clock, but the Panthers took the 13-8 decision.
