DAVIDSON, N.C. – Longwood University suffered another National Lacrosse Conference (NLC) loss on the road at Davidson 18-14 in Davidson, North Carolina Friday evening. Junior Jamie Brentlinger|Gambrills, Md. (Arundel) netted five goals, while sophomore Lauren Prasnicki|Lexington (Rockbridge County) added three goals and two assists in the close loss to the Wildcats (6-8, 3-2 NLC). The Lancers (2-11, 2-3 NLC) stay in North Carolina to face High Point University for another conference match on Sunday, April 22 at 1 p.m.

The game remained close for all 60 minutes as there were four ties and three lead changes in the first half, while the largest lead all game was six (13-7) at 25:55 in the second half in favor of Davidson. Neither team scored more than two goals in a row in the first period, aside from a three-goal run by the Wildcats between 10:54 and 5:28.

Scoring began at 28:50 when Davidson got on the board, but Longwood answered back quickly as Prasnicki finished just over a minute later at 27:36. Davidson then scored two, which Longwood promptly answered, via senior captain Jessica Rudloff|West Chester, Pa. (West Chester) and Prasnicki, to tie it at 3-3. The Lancers took their first lead 5-4 at 11:17 when Brentlinger tallied her first goal that followed the first of three goals by sophomore Mary Barondess|Centreville (Westfield) at 12:19 after Davidson got on the board at 19:03. That's when Davidson answered with its three-goal run to take the two-goal lead 7-5. Barondess and Brentlinger scored once more each to close out scoring for Longwood in the half, but the hosts scored three more, holding the 10-7 advantage entering intermission.

Davidson went on its second three-goal run to begin the second half, scoring at 28:35, 27:33 and 25:55 to go ahead 13-7, which ultimately proved to be a run that the Lancers could not recover from despite their own four-goal run between 24:05 and 17:34, bringing the margin to just two goals at 13-11. The Wildcats answered with two goals, and Brentlinger charged for two final goals of her own within 22 seconds of each other to bring Longwood back within two with 8:28 remaining. The Lancers then allowed Davidson's Alanna Parker three final goals while only Barondess was able to score one more for the final 18-14 tally.

Brentlinger was 2-for-2 on free position attempts, while Barondess finished two of three. Rudloff netted three goals, while freshman Sara Jacobson|Gainesville (Battlefield) added an assist. Senior captain Hannah Riggs|Eden Prairie, Minn. (Eden Prairie) tied Barondess for a team-high five draw controls, while solely collecting a team-high four ground balls and two caused turnovers. She also dished out one assist. Junior transfer Mollie Zimmerman|Fairpoint, N.Y. (Monroe CC|Catawba College) played the first 38:50 in goal for Longwood, making five saves and allowing 13 goals with one ground ball. Freshman Christian Acker|Moorestown, N.J. (Moorestown) played the last 21:10 also making five saves, conceding five goals and collecting one ground ball.

“We battled for 60 minutes today and just came up short,” said interim head coach Wendy Stone. “Our transition game looked much better, and we will look to improve again on Sunday when we face a very tough High Point team.”
