Longwood Participating In NLC Cancer Awareness Week

4.12.2012

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- As part of its initiative to help battle the fight against cancer, all the members of the National Lacrosse Conference (NLC) will take part in a Cancer Awareness Week starting on Friday. The Longwood women's lacrosse team will be playing Presbyterian College tomorrow, April 13 at 4 p.m., for its designated NLC Cancer Awareness game.

“It is great that all the coaches in the league wanted to get together and participate in such a great cause,” said NLC Commissioner Steve Corder. “The weekend is a great opportunity to raise money and help a lot of local charities in the fight against cancer, and it really shows what collegiate sports is all about.”

Home teams from the conference will wear cancer awareness t-shirts while warming up, while the Lancers will be selling t-shirts with all proceeds going to local cancer charities. Longwood will also set up a donation table at the Athletics Complex for all fans interested in helping out this great cause.

Founded in 2009, the National Lacrosse Conference is a premier NCAA Division I women's lacrosse conference. Truly a national conference, the NLC is comprised of teams from Florida (Jacksonville University), Michigan (University of Detroit Mercy), North Carolina (Davidson College and High Point University), South Carolina (Presbyterian College), Virginia (Liberty University and Longwood University) and Washington, D.C. (Howard University).

The NLC and its members are proud of their commitment to academics, character, community and athletics.
